A concert in which Bach's music moves between exuberance and tranquility.

In 'Bach Motets' Cappella Amsterdam, led by chief conductor Daniel Reuss, presents a concert in which the music of Johann Sebastian Bach comes to life in all its contrasts.

The motets move between extremes and are interwoven with sections from Bach's cello suites in G major (BWV 1007), D minor (BWV 1008) and C major (BWV 1009). This creates a layered programme in which different musical worlds alternate and reinforce each other.

Works such as 'Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied' and 'Der Geist hilft unser Schwachheit auf' brim with exuberance, while 'Komm, Jesu, komm' and 'Jesu, meine Freude' seek tranquility instead.

Although motets were already being composed before Bach's time, he gave the genre its own signature. He wrote countless motets, often for special occasions. Many of these works were performed only once and not always carefully preserved.

All the more remarkable is the fact that a number of these compositions have stood the test of time and still resonate today. In this concert, they come together in a programme that makes the richness and versatility of Bach's music tangible.
