M-Talk

That Meervaart is organizing this heat round is no coincidence. Within the Talent Development & Education (T&E) department, artistic participation and the creative growth of children, young people and young adults are central. Every year, thousands of young Amsterdammers find their way to Meervaart for their first introduction to art and culture, or to develop their talent further through workshops, projects and performances.

On Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 April, the Meervaart Young Festival took place. From the youngest children to ambitious young people, they showcased their talents in dance, music, theater and visual arts. 

The final location choice for the integration area of the Nieuwe Meervaart, approved by the college of Mayor and Aldermen in February 2024, is drawing attention. In this M-Talk, we give an impression of how Meervaart views the possibilities of the design and integration of a new building at the corner of Lelylaan / Meer en Vaart.

While the performance Glass & More was playing in our Blue Hall, children from Meervaart Young and teenagers from Meervaart Studio were taking lessons in the studios, and a site-specific performance by Theater Company Dood Paard was taking place in The School, the Municipality chose during the city council meeting (of June 16) to build a new Meervaart and selected its location: directly across from us, in the water.

Meervaart wants to bring together all its activities – creating, presenting and learning – under one roof. In doing so, we create inspiring vibrancy and a dynamic where we bring out the best in each other. This calls for a building fit for the future.
