Kunstbende

Al meer dan 35 jaar een podium voor jong talent

On Saturday, April 18, Meervaart transforms into a vibrant place full of young talent. During the preliminary round of KunstbendeNoord-Holland, young creators between the ages of 13 and 19 showcase their self-made work to both the audience and a professional jury. In various rooms and foyers, they present their creations within eight categories: Dance, DJ, Expo, Fashion, Film, Music, Language, and Theater. With over 60 acts on stage, it promises to be a dynamic and versatile day, full of surprising performances and fresh ideas.

Meervaart x Kunstbende
It is no coincidence that Meervaart is organizing this preliminary round. Within the Talent Development & Education (T&E) department, art participation and the creative growth of children, young people and young adults are central. Every year, thousands of young Amsterdammers find their way to Meervaart for a first introduction to art and culture, or to further develop their talent through workshops, projects and performances.

From this vision, Meervaart has been organizing the North Holland preliminary round of Kunstbende for more than 25 years. The event seamlessly aligns with Meervaart's mission: giving young people a platform, stimulating their creativity and helping them grow as makers. Kunstbende is often a first step towards a future in the arts.

For many artists, Kunstbende turned out to be the first platform where they could showcase their talent. Well-known names such as Trijntje Oosterhuis and Martin Garrix once started on this platform.

Saturday, April 18 – discover the makers of tomorrow
The day begins at 11:00 AM when doors open for participants and visitors. At 12:00 PM, the official opening takes place in the Red Hall. Throughout the day, dozens of young creators showcase their work. Each category is judged by a three-person expert jury, who not only select a top three but also provide participants with valuable feedback.

The first jury members are now known. In the dance category, the jury consists of Loraine Pengel, Tim Postuman and Sophie Tukker. For the exhibition category, submissions are judged by Mirre Yayla Séuris, Jahi Quasim Reeberg and George Adegite. In the film category, Isa de Rijck van der Gracht, Abel van Dijk and Mark Groen serve on the jury. With their diverse expertise, it promises to be an inspiring and educational judging experience for all participants.

The day is presented by Niek Putman, Elisa Costa, Moun and Linde Rongen. With their fresh energy and enthusiasm, they guide the day smoothly from one segment to the next. They take you through the program, create a good vibe and together with the audience and participants make it an unforgettable, creative day.

The first prize winners advance to the national finals at the Kunstbende Young Creators Festival. There they represent North Holland and have the chance to perform on major stages such as the Oerol Festival, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and The Notorious IBE Festival.

A day full of acts and a surprising supporting program
In addition to the acts, there is also a supporting program featuring DJ's and workshops, among other things. This way, the preliminary round becomes not only a competition, but also a meeting place where young creators inspire each other, gather new ideas and collaborations can emerge.
