On Monday, June 1st, Meervaart hosted the live edition of the MIMA-nominated podcast OmaMa. Audiomaker and presenter Dija Kabba took the audience on a personal and compelling journey with composer Nana Adjoa, exploring stories about family, loss, racism, and reconciliation.

During this festive evening, participants of the Meervaart Studio Film Lab present their own films, made during an intensive journey filled with writing, shooting and editing under the guidance of professionals. The result is a collection of personal, raw and surprising stories from emerging Amsterdam filmmaking talent. 

During a special edition of the Meervaart Comedy Café at Kor Fest, emerging comedians get the chance to test new material in front of a live audience. Under the guidance of Jacob Adriani, Kor Hoebe selects twelve talents who will take the stage on August 20, 21, or 22, 2026. The open mic provides an accessible venue to experiment, grow, and try out new comedy, while visitors discover surprising and unheard talent.

Are you between 15 and 27 years old and interested in film and social issues? Join the Young Adults Selection Committee of the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam and help decide which documentaries receive the official Young Adults Label. You'll watch films, share your opinions with other young people, and gain a unique behind-the-scenes look at an international film festival. Additionally, you can contribute to a special screening evening where you'll curate an inspiring program for young audiences.

During 24 Hours Nieuw-West, Meervaart opens its doors for a special afternoon full of discovery and creativity. Visitors can participate in an exclusive backstage tour through the theater and get to know the behind-the-scenes spaces that normally remain hidden from the public. Additionally, young creators from Amsterdam present their talent during inspiring pop-up performances featuring music and spoken word. A unique opportunity to experience both the magic of theater and new cultural talent from Nieuw-West.

From Friday 15 to Saturday 16 May, Meervaart Studio transformed into a creative hotspot where 25 young artists, producers, songwriters, rappers and beatmakers collaborated on new music for 24 hours.

In an intensive program, young DJs worked on their skills, performance and artist identity under the guidance of experienced coaches including DJ Rockefellababe. 

But what is it really like to intern at this creative hotspot in Amsterdam Nieuw-West? We spoke with former interns who have since found their way in the creative industry — and one thing is clear: their internship had more impact than they had anticipated.

For more than 35 years, Meervaart has provided a platform through Kunstbende for young creatives. Generations of makers have taken their first steps here towards a future in art and culture. This year once again demonstrated how important it is to create space for experimentation, development, and finding one's own voice.
