The Carel Kraayenhof Quartet, together with cellist Nuala McKenna, presents a brand new program: 'Bach in Buenos Aires.' McKenna, who listened to Piazzolla's CDs as a child, sees her great wish come true: to play Piazzolla's music with one of the best tango ensembles in Europe. The musicians of the quartet, in turn, are inspired by Nuala for a special encounter with the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. 

The unique and personal style of Astor Piazzolla has touched music lovers for decades. His energetic and melancholic compositions unite classical music, tango, and jazz. To this day, they occupy a unique place that transcends style, location, and time, making them very recognizable and turning into a musical world of their own. 

It is well known that contemporary classical composers have written works based on tango. However, few know that it also happened the other way around - tango composers who were inspired by classical music. For instance, you can recognize fugues by Bach in Piazzolla's works and quotes from Beethoven in the music of Osvaldo Pugliese. 

The Carel Kraayenhof Quartet and Nuala McKenna perform works by, among others, Piazzolla, Bach, Kurt Weill, and Kraayenhof. The pianist of the quartet, Juan-Pablo Dobal - who grew up in Argentina with tango and classical music - composed a new piece for this program.
