Let yourself be drawn into a personal and moving story about family, loss, racism and reconciliation.

On Monday, June 1st, experience the MIMA-nominated podcast OmaMa in a unique live edition at Meervaart. Let yourself be drawn into a personal and moving story about family, loss, racism and reconciliation, told by audiomaker and presenter Dija Kabba and musically supported by composer Nana Adjoa. After the performance, the makers will discuss the creation of the documentary and the themes at its center.

About OmaMa

When her grandmother develops Alzheimer's, Dija Kabba witnesses how rigid convictions—including the beliefs that once led to her father's rejection—become more pronounced. At the same time, her mother, who once broke away from her conservative Brabant background, returns to care for her mother. At the invitation of OORZAKEN, NTR DOCS and Buma in Motion, she created the audio documentary OmaMa together with composer Nana Adjoa, a story about loss, racism and reconciliation.

About OORZAKEN

OORZAKEN is a platform for audio stories and storytellers. Based on the conviction that audio is a powerful medium for empathy, reflection and imagination, OORZAKEN develops projects where personal stories take center stage. In addition to the Oorzaken Podcast Academy, the platform also organizes the annual Oorzaken Festival at Vlaams Cultuurhuis de Brakke Grond in Amsterdam.

Last year, Meervaart collaborated with OORZAKEN on the Oorzaken Podcast Academy Nieuw-West. Twelve young makers from Nieuw-West were given the opportunity to make their own voice and living environment heard. In Meervaart Studio, they attended workshops led by professional podcasters and learned the basics of research, interview techniques and audio editing. The result is Pleinen vol verhalen: a podcast series centered on the squares of Nieuw-West and the people who gather there. From the August Allebéplein to Plein '40-'45, the makers share personal, vivid and relatable stories about encounter, community and everyday life in the neighborhood. www.oorzaken.org
