Featuring work by photographers from our Meervaart Studio Foto Lab community
On 6 and 7 August, Meervaart celebrates WorldPride Amsterdam 2026. During these special days, we present Unity, a photography exhibition centring on identity, visibility, connection and inclusion.
On the occasion of WorldPride Amsterdam, the city celebrates diversity and draws attention to equal rights and the position of the LGBTQIA+ community. Under the theme UNITY, people, communities and cultures from around the world come together. In addition to the festivities, WorldPride also provides space for art, culture, encounter and reflection.
In this exhibition, photographers from the Meervaart Studio Foto Lab community show how themes such as freedom, community and self-expression are experienced. Through personal stories and diverse perspectives, Unity invites visitors to reflect on the past, present and future of the LGBTQIA+ community. At the same time, the exhibition demonstrates how art can contribute to greater understanding, connection and social change.

About Meervaart Expo
In our foyer, Meervaart presents rotating exhibitions several times a year as part of Meervaart Expo, alongside the permanent exhibition Meervaart in sight. We provide a platform for visual artists, photographers and illustrators whose work connects with themes relevant to our theatre programme. The exhibitions offer a visual deepening of current topics and create space for new voices, perspectives and stories, often linked to our city and its residents. More info
The exhibition can be viewed on 6 & 7 August 2026 during performances. Would you prefer to visit the exhibition outside of performances? Please contact our box office at [email protected] to arrange an appointment.
Frieda Belinfante Performance
Alongside the exhibition, during WorldPride at Meervaart, you can also see the performance Frieda Belinfante. In this intimate production, you step into the life of an exceptional woman who broke boundaries as a musician and as a person, in a unique blend of musical and opera.
Cellist, queer, resistance hero – and the first woman to conduct her own symphony orchestra. In this 'one woman musical', presented by De Nationale Opera in collaboration with Stichting Boon en Ster, the life of Frieda Belinfante (1904–1995) takes center stage.
Her story moves between music and history, between personal choices and major events. As a musician, she was ahead of her time; as a person, she had to hold her own in a world that was not yet ready for her. More info
