Vision
Meervaart Jong is built from the ground up through connections in the neighborhood and education. The stage is a community space that reaches as many people in the neighborhood as possible and serves as a new meeting place for young people, their parents, and everyone who feels connected to the initiative. Meervaart Jong creates theater with children in the broadest sense of the word and showcases their unique qualities in a theatrical reality at presentation moments.
Meervaart Jong offers children in Amsterdam-West the opportunity to enjoy theater, music, dance, and visual arts after school in an accessible way by being visible in multiple locations and offering classes. At the same time, we expect children to bring a motivated work ethic, as this is the foundation for enjoying the courses.
Through the performing arts, Meervaart Jong seeks to discover the unique qualities of children and gives these theatrical form within a performance or presentation. We do this by drawing on the quality of our teachers, who often find their inspiration from other art forms or are themselves active as performing artists.
Mission
Meervaart Jong sees every day that art brings people together and contributes to the joy and happiness of children. We therefore want to:
Be a meeting place for children, parents, and arts educators.
- Introduce children to the performing arts and offer them a multi-year curriculum in which they can develop in the field of performing arts.
- Give children a platform where their unique qualities are recognized and where presentations and productions are interesting to watch for a broad audience.
- Offer leisure activities that are based on the joy and quality of the arts and also contribute to the development of social skills, self-awareness, and personality.
- Be an inspiring place in Amsterdam-West by functioning as a community space that actively involves the immediate surroundings and participants in the activities.
