Ik, Driss
Meervaart Production (2012)
Meervaart & Stichting ’t Beemstervarken
A musical comedy based on the successful NRC serial and book "Ik Driss" by Hassan Bahara and Asis Aynan. "Ik, Driss" is a performance about young Driss Tafersiti, who comes to the Netherlands as a guest worker. His adventure is part of our history and symbolizes that of many others. Light-hearted dialogues, comical self-reflection, and a mix of Moroccan, Turkish, Western pop music, and Dutch sing-alongs are the main ingredients of this musical. A story about the Netherlands seen through new eyes, singing along with Dutch folk music, and an all-encompassing love. But above all, a moving story about a man who does not want to stand still and chooses the society in which he lives.
For the performance, a traveling exhibition has been created based on photos and stories from the first generation of guest workers.
