How I gaind talent...

WAT WE DOEN, ICK, George & Eran Producties, AAO & Meervaart (2019)

'How I Got Talent for Life' is a production of WAT WE DOEN in collaboration with ICK Dance Amsterdam, George & Eran Productions, the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra, and Meervaart.

Five actors, five musicians, and dozens of people with a history of asylum tell the poignant and humorous story of a young man seeking asylum in the Netherlands. They take you into the sometimes bizarre lives of the people living and working in the asylum seeker's center, who sometimes become hopelessly entangled in the system.

For this colorful performance, the theater company WAT WE DOEN combined forces with the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra, George & Eran Productions, ICK Amsterdam, and Meervaart. The asylum seeker's center is depicted as a village with its own laws and rules on stage. Through the eyes of the main character Semmier, the actors take the audience into the bizarre lives of the people living and working there. They often try to do good for themselves and others, but become hopelessly entangled in the system.

The performance is based on the book of the same name by Rodaan Al Galidi. In *How I Discovered My Talent for Life*, Al Galidi portrays a raw and surprisingly humorous picture of asylum policy and Dutch society.
