A Japanese drumming group with more than 40 Taiko drums.
Yamato is a Japanese Taiko drum group from the city of Nara. The drum group has been active since 1993 and has performed more than 4,500 shows in 55 countries since then.
On stage, there are more than 40 so-called Taiko drums, which literally means 'large drum.' Yamato's largest drum, the ‘Odaiko,’ is made from a huge tree that is 400 years old. This drum has a diameter of about two meters and weighs 500 kg(!).
The other Taiko drums come in various sizes and produce different sounds. The members of Yamato have trained their bodies to the limit to play the Taiko drums. The music of Yamato is sometimes intense, sometimes sad, sometimes reassuring, and sometimes even comedic.
The sound that someone strikes resonates with the human heart. The sounds struck by the heart, in harmony with one another, will become 'Hito no Chikara' – The Power of Humanity.
